Biography:

Some people call it luck, others hard work and dedication. The best words that can describe Ivan Jimenez work are rebellious spirit and boldness against everything around. His anarchic vision in the photographic world and scene made him one of the first european creators of a specialized skateboarding print pub in Spain (2000, UNO Magazine) and one of the pioneers using new technologies on its field.
In 1994 his first stills and articles get published in the megamagazine “Skate Magazine”, first spanish skateboard magazine. The process was somehow magic for a 15 years old: You call somewhere, send some pics, write a text, and then you get to influence a bunch of people who will read and watch what you created. That turned into an addiction. During that era, the nationally known school for design and arts “Llotja” backed him up with knowledge on print developing, shutter speeds and more wisdom to use his Yashica camera.

In 1999-2000 he expands his equipment range (Nikon F5), and in june 2000 after completing his graphic design studies leaves to California to work for “Monkey Business” skateboard company as main photographer and designer. He shot the first pro griptape packaging pic with friend and pro skateboarder Enrique Lorenzo.
By the end of the year 2000 the first issue of “UNO Magazine” gets to newstands nationally.
From 2000 to 2006 he will be one of the most prolific european contributors for specialized media in european and international publications like Thrasher (USA), Strange Notes (USA), TWS (Japan), Munster (Germany), Tricks (France), SUGAR (France), Strength (USA), Slap (USA), Tres60 (Spain), Dogway (Spain), MTV Magazine (Spain), MAN (Spain) or Adrenalin (UK).
Considered to be an “enfant terrible” on its field for his rebel attitude and his apathy for social interaction and against following the “photography rules”, he has never considered himself a “photographer”.

“Im not a photographer. I shoot photos, but I love what I do. The thing is people dont get why I want to bring just one flash to a session instead of 3 most people carry, or why I want to use a plastic camera to a shooting, and why my results are always going to be better than theirs.”

His work has not only been featured on print pubs or digital websites, but also on international campaings for the likes of Axtion Shoes (USA), NIKE, Benetton (Italy), Tensor Trucks (USA), DECA Skateboards (USA), or even Ezekiel Clothing (USA).
From 2007 to this day, Ivan Jimenez photographic work has been focused on the exploration and investigation of different formats: Polaroids, panoramic photos, digital, retouching pics, and the use of uncommon and original photo equipment, for websites, catalogs, books and magazines.

From 2004 until today, he is been also mixing his photo experience with his marketing skills, job that has led him to work for brands like Worldwide (2008-2009), Nike (2004-2011) or SKULLS (2010 to date), a job that led him to be the producer of independent videos like ONE WAY, AMIGOS / Demonios, or paper pubs like the 6.0 lookbooks for Nike 6.0 for Spain or unaccountable shootings with national agencies.

“My only goal with my photography is to have fun doing things my way, never following anybodys way. Before pressing the shutter I already know how the picture will look like. Thats not called luck. Thats called experience.”
